Newsweek Inc. for $1

This is really sad. First, TV Guide, then followed by BusinessWeek. Newsweekly era is now officially over. These magazines used to have an enormous media stature in 60s/70s. People used to run to newsstands every week to get them and find out what are the most pressing issues around the world, around the US. If a person or a topic was featured on the cover, it’s heavenly respected. But glory days are all over now. Did internet and its companion devices wipe these papers out from public’s interest? Random online ads killed traditional news ads?
Hope these giant publishers continue to produce quality contents, perhaps by forging allies with that merciless internet. I believe well-crafted, polished articles can still win groundless rants of personal (or even professional in that case) blogs!
Microsoft Q4 2010 Earnings
Still pretty stunning results. Although it was highly anticipated, Apple was nowhere near to beat Microsoft’s revenue yet.
Microsoft Corp. today announced record fourth-quarter revenue of $16.04 billion for the quarter ended June 30, 2010, a 22% increase from the same period of the prior year. Operating income, net income and diluted earnings per share for the quarter were $5.93 billion, $4.52 billion and $0.51 per share, which represented increases of 49%, 48% and 50%, respectively, when compared with the prior year period.
Lenovo feeling lucky
The leading Chinese PC maker, 30% in its home market, has something to say about Apple.

Speaking of that one bad fellow, Lenovo’s founder and chairman, told the Financial Times:
We are lucky that Steve Jobs has such a bad temper and doesn’t care about China. If Apple were to spend the same effort on the Chinese consumer as we do, we would be in trouble.
Nobody knows what Steve is thinking, do we? They have just announced to unveil a new Official Retail Store in Shanghai, two years after their first Apple Store in Beijing Salintun. After all, it does seem China Unicom has been selling iPhones quite well there.
End of Sidekick

Just a day after Kin project was put to an end, T-Mobile announced today they are going to stop selling existing Sidekick phones! Sidekick, a mobile phone being produced by Microsoft after it acquired Danger, relies heavily on cloud for storing customer’s personal information. Last year, it came to close scrutiny of lawmakers when a massive cloud servers outrage wiped off sensitive data of Sidekick users!
May be, just may be. OneApp project will be shutdown soon. At least Microsoft is now attempting to recollects its resources to unify long overdue fragmented mobile strategies for Windows Mobile 7.
R.I.P Microsoft's Kin

Image via Wired
Kin is now dead as wood. RIP.
Yes literally, it’s still on sales in US but Microsoft has just pulled out its plans to launch Kin in Europe and Asia. Due to anemic sales and some disastrous industry feedbacks, Microsoft is now merging Kin with its Windows Phone 7 teams.
Poor Robert Bach. He couldn’t save his job and now his little brainchild.
WANTED: Antenna Engineers

Antenna war is growing. It could be a serious physical problem and there are also funny recently dismissive rumors that Apple would recall its phones. Anyway, Apple is now looking into iPhone 4 antenna issues seriously. Or I may be wrong, they could just be building a next generation antenna system for future devices.
But in any case, if you have know-how of those little radio frequency sticks, just go and apply!
Virgin America on Calif Green Tech

Our dear conglomerate, rock star, fashion icon, adventurous, crazy CEO, Richard Branson is in San Francisco opening new routes to Toronto. Both Arnold and Gavin seemed quite happy to listen to his pledges on green energy, new jobs, better economy and innovation - a politician’s dreams.
Richard was in E3 LA just two weeks ago announcing its new services Virgin Gaming - where players worldwide can challenge each other, participate in tournaments, earn points, buy gears etc.
Too bad it only supports PS3/XBox users at this moment.
Frank Shaw's now Popular with his Numbers

To me, it’s a great attempt to pull MS back on stage. Many people are now having an impression that MS is doomed because of Apple/Google’s recent successes. (Especially numbers like “3m iPads in 80 days!”).
Microsoft is a giant, huge, gigantic tech king. And, it will never go down too soon too easily for sure.
Android's App Market Scam
With all respect to its exciting platform, I’d say this is very disgraceful to Android’s market. Time for Google to clean it up, indeed.
Biggest Apologies by Tech Companies (2010)
Technology companies will always be in such risks. So far in 2010, these are all worth talking.
