Microsoft Q4 2010 Earnings
Still pretty stunning results. Although it was highly anticipated, Apple was nowhere near to beat Microsoft’s revenue yet.
Microsoft Corp. today announced record fourth-quarter revenue of $16.04 billion for the quarter ended June 30, 2010, a 22% increase from the same period of the prior year. Operating income, net income and diluted earnings per share for the quarter were $5.93 billion, $4.52 billion and $0.51 per share, which represented increases of 49%, 48% and 50%, respectively, when compared with the prior year period.
Signal issues no big deal?

Dan Frommer of BusinessInsider says people shouldn’t worry about iPhone 4 antenna issues. iPhone 4 signal issues fueled this week when consumer reports announced “they can’t recommend iPhone 4 to buyers”. Ironically, in a separate report, they also chose iPhone 4 as the best smartphone on the planet at this moment.
We are living in a strange world. I agree with Dan that this is a non-critical issue as what happened to Toyota or BP. :-) Despite the strong calls for penalty, eh I mean, recall, I think there are still other viable yet effective options for Apple - e.g. giving away free bumperss!!
Lucid Overview of iOS Multitasking
Quite an insightful post with thorough, perspicuous explanation of how multitasking works in new iOS4. It might not be 100% gold master apple reference guide, but definitely is still a place for you to start if you wanna get your hands on multitasking/fast app-switching in your apps.
Oliver:
Adding fast app switching and multitasking support is quite easy since for the most part you don’t need to do anything. But you WILL have to review the contents of your app delegate methods to see which code has to be moved into one of the other delegate methods now.
Lenovo feeling lucky
The leading Chinese PC maker, 30% in its home market, has something to say about Apple.

Speaking of that one bad fellow, Lenovo’s founder and chairman, told the Financial Times:
We are lucky that Steve Jobs has such a bad temper and doesn’t care about China. If Apple were to spend the same effort on the Chinese consumer as we do, we would be in trouble.
Nobody knows what Steve is thinking, do we? They have just announced to unveil a new Official Retail Store in Shanghai, two years after their first Apple Store in Beijing Salintun. After all, it does seem China Unicom has been selling iPhones quite well there.
WANTED: Antenna Engineers

Antenna war is growing. It could be a serious physical problem and there are also funny recently dismissive rumors that Apple would recall its phones. Anyway, Apple is now looking into iPhone 4 antenna issues seriously. Or I may be wrong, they could just be building a next generation antenna system for future devices.
But in any case, if you have know-how of those little radio frequency sticks, just go and apply!
Confirmed: Pathetic Fonts Support on Mobile Safari
It’s unbearable. There are people ranting about this long ago. But, I waited iOS4 in hope of Apple fixing these issues. Well, they didn’t. Fonts support in iPhone, iPod, iPad is truly woeful.
These iDevices have a really limited font library, which isn’t helped by mobile safari’s poor support of font embedding (where font types such as OTF, TTF, WOFF aren’t properly/completely rendered). The only embeddable font type is SVG font. Geez, how many times we see SVG fonts? Plus, it’s probably only good for Western languages. Many existing Asian fonts are already having difficulty converting to SVG!
I thought Apple love open standards. Come on. This is CSS3 font embedding! And, since when Steve lost his love for Typography?
